EPRO8

EPRO8 was really fun. First we got the team together, Leo, Leo, Jackson ,Sam. We all got Kapanui jackets and went in the car with one of the Leo's mum. We got to Paraparaumu beach school and went into the hall. We were the first ones there so we sat down. It took a while before the other schools came along and once all the schools were there the instructor started to talk about the challenge. There was a challenge book and we could choose a challenge to work on. We chose the Mars rover. There were steps of what you had to do but doesn't tell you how to do it. Every step is worth a certain amount of points. When we finished the Mars rover we did another challenge, it was the swing set. At prize giving the top 4 go to the finals. And we came............. 5th. Waa, waa.

Oscar Kightly writing workshop

Oscar Kightley Writing!!

On Friday I went to Waikanae school to see Oscar Kightley.  Oscar Kightley came to Waikanae school to see if we all have the potential to be a writer!  Oscar had a list of things that if you put your hand up saying yes I am, at least once then you have what it takes to be a writer.  We all had to do a piece of writing, Oscar Kightley said that he will read all of them and will pick about 50-60 of them to be published.  Here is a picture of Oscar Kightley.

Winter Tournament

Yesterday, the 11th of August, our school had winter tournament. We get to try out a new sport and on the tournament day all the different schools competed against each other. It was not a competitive game, no scores were kept.

I played hockey, and I really enjoyed it!!! Our team was called the Turbo Tornadoes, there were 9 people inn our team so I had to miss a game because the team voted not to do subbing. I think it was unfair because some people got three teams and the rest got two!!! I was unlucky and only got two games.

The first game we lost, 1-O to Kenakena school,I played centre forward which meant that I got to shoot goals. Even though we lost it was still a really fun game.

The next game we won, 2-O to us. I was a back ( A little bit like a goalie) but I kept on forgetting and going up to shoot.

The last game I didn't play, we tied 1-1. I really enjoyed playing hockey and I think I might play next year.

Inquirers Prep trade expo

On Friday the 29th of August our class and the other classes in our year had our trade expo. Our business, Draw for Days, handed out our survey and showed people our products. The questions in our survey were like: Would you buy our product? How much would you pay? What patterns would you like on it? Later on we analysed our data and found out that the majority of people who did our survey would buy our products and pay quite a good price. Our most popular products were the pencil case and pencils. Our group also found out that we had some competition! I think our pencil holders were better though because the others had cello tape on the outside. It was fun filling out surveys, and also telling people about our products.

Cross Country

Yesterday, the 9th of June Kapanui School had Cross Country. I was going to be a photographer.I  went down to the park with the little kids. They separated into year groups and did some warm ups. Then Mr Chaters clapped the big wooden block andBANG!!They were off. They ran and ran. I took some photos. All the juniors had cute smiles on their faces as they ran past me.Then it was the Explorers turn. They did their warm ups and ran after the blocks of wood bashed together. I took some more photos but it was hard because they were so fast. Now my turn. I lined up did my warm ups and when the blocks went Bang!! I ran. At first I was trudging behind a bit but at the hill I almost disappeared in almost thin air.I ran down the hill passing two others. We entered the bush and I passed another five. Down through the bush there was a huge gap behind me. I was 6th  so for me I was doing well. We came down the concrete path and over a big patch of dry land and grass. We entered another bush, jumped a gate and around a pole. We ran over the field and over the zigzagged across the soccer  and rugby fields. I passed another three but right behind me another two and they were gaining on me but. Even though I tried really hard my little legs could not move fast enough. They ran in front of me and I had now become fifth. We were on the last part of the race and I ran with all my might and happily finished fifth. Now I am going to the inter school next week on Wednesday. Hooray!!:-D

Jack Flash show

On Friday the 24th of July I watched the show Jumping Jack Flash, which was a version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The story was that the village was raining rubbish so the king decided to blame Jack for it. Jack looked at a rubbish bag which said: I GIANTS RUBBISH so he knew where to go. He got Twan (a bean) to grow for him, he went up into the clouds and.... saw a giant throwing all his rubbish of the cloud because he thought he was the best of the best. Actually he was just a normal person and not massive at all. A bird taught him to reduce, reuse and recycle. After that the village was happy and they all lived happily ever. Everyone really enjoyed it.

Turf opening

On Friday the 26th of June our new school turf opened. That means we can still play on the field when it is wet and cold in winter. We had a turf opening assembly and thanked the Kapanui school fundraising committee and the Waikanae board for their help in making the turf. After that we did a sports rotation and each of the 5 Whanau's hosted one. This rotation included the turf   and luckily Te Whenua ( my whanau ) got to go on the turf first. Before the turf got opened they did a opening ceremony in which a person from the Waikanae board blessed it and cut the ribbon. The rotation also included rob the nest, tug of war, ball rush, skipping. My favourite was the skipping as I figured out how to do one-legged Criss cross.

Fields of rememberance

Fields of rememberance

The Field of Remembrance

Last week on April the 24th we had a field of remembrance. A field of remembrance is where we have a little performance where lots of people speak. We sat down in a line and waited for it to start. First Cullen spoke about Anzac and then read out an Anzac poem. Then the head girl of kapiti college spoke and then the head boy of Paraparaumu spoke. The a RSA veteran from the 2nd world war spoke about the war and things he remembered. Then Ngapera got up and said " eh tu " we stood up and did a waiata. Then we had a minute of silence to remember the soldiers that lost their lives fighting for our freedom that we have now. After the other guest speakers the bagpipe player played amazing grace. Then we stood up and walked round to where the crosses were. We each grabbed a poppy and laid it down beside a cross while we remembered the soldiers.

Here is a photo of the wreath that Ross Church and the RSA soldier placed by the flag pole.

Egg sitting - Keeping Ourselves Safe

Last Friday our syndicate got eggs to look after.
I decided to name my egg Bert. I stuffed him in his cube/home and put him in my bag. That night I made a bed for Bert and wrapped him in bubble wrap. The next day my egg went to horse riding and to my best friends house for a sleepover. I think that Bert loved staying at my friends house for the night. The next day it was Monday and I had to bring Bert back to school for the teacher to see. I did not crack my egg but some people did. I think that I am very responsible for an egg. Later that day Bert decided that he would love a turn at sky diving so I let him fly of the fence and he cracked open on the ground. That was the very sad end of Bert the wonderful egg!
Here is a beautiful photo of him!!

Bike race

First everyone got together and we were told where to go for the mountain bike race. Everyone from Kapanui school went to the cars and went to our destination. We got out of our cars and road our bikes to the starting line and waited for around half an hour! When the races Finally began, the year 5s went first. When most of the year 5s were done half a lap, the year 6s went. Most people raced ahead while some people stayed behind. The coarse was 4km (to laps of a coarse). Throughout the hole thing, lots of people's bikes broke and lots of people got lots of horse/cow poo all over their bike. After the year 6s hole 4km track, the year 7/8s went. Kapanui cricket (umpires vs teachers)

It all started at Kapanui School. The battle between children and teacher, who will be victorious in this epic battle, who will be the champion of the KAPANUI CRICKET?!! Batter up. The teachers bat first. The umpires bowl. The bowler prepares for a run up, and....... What a great bowl along with a great hit from the teachers. This continues in till all the teachers have had a bat. And this system also continues in till everyone has had a bat! In the end the umpires win, WOO WHO!!!

Rad Rythm

This year the inquirers are doing Rad Rhythm . Rad Rhythm is a music activity  where you learn to play drum tunes on a trash can using drum sticks and at the end of the term  present a show to the school and parents. We do little activities in our booklets as well like learning how many beats in a bar etc.
Here are some photos of the gang:
