Swimming Sports
Splish! Splash! We're taking a swim! What an amazing day we had at the Swimming Sports for 2014!The day began when all of the swimmers were called at 9.15am to line up at the basketball courts just outside the school hall. We then sat down in the order of each of our whanau groups: Te Awa, Te Whenua, Te Waka, Te Moana and Nga Manu.
Mr Brunton then led all of us down to the Waikanae Pool and we arrived there at about 9:30am. Most girls had already changed into their togs, so the girls' freestyle began immediately, with participants ranging from ages 7 to 13 years.
Following the girls freestyle was the boys' freestyle; however we needed to have a break in between to get ready.
The next few races were backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Each of the events were sequenced in the same continuing order: girl, boy, girl, boy, girl, boy etc...
At around 12.00pm, the rest of the school arrived. At this time the cheering extravaganza began!
The first whanau parading was Te Waka with the teachers wearing red skirts - even the men!
Up next, was Te Whenua with their fancy green attire! Third in was Te Awa with their sparkly blue wigs!
Te Moana went in fourth, representing in dazzling light blue! Finally, was Nga Manu with their epic yellow capes!
Te Waka, Te Awa and Te Whenua were the first called for the sausages and juicies , then the rest of the whanaus followed in groups of two. The whanaus Te Waka, Te Awa and Te Whenua started off the free swim which was super awesome!!!
At approximately 2.00pm, the final races began with the girls freestyle final, followed by the boys freestyle finale.
The time for the Relays - as well as the Parent and Teacher races had struck!
In the end, everyone gave it their best and the teacher's team won.
A big thank you to all those who contributed towards our swimming sports for 2014, and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
Can't wait to dive in next year for the 2015 Swimming Sports!!!!
